Inviting an Academic Visitor
Academic visitors are an integral part of the University's of Alberta research community who make valuable contributions to the academic life of the UofA.
To ensure an easy transition to campus, University of Alberta staff in the host department should complete the following steps when inviting an academic visitor.

Step 1: Complete the Academic Visitor Category Assessment
This simple online form gathers basic information about the academic visitor if you are uncertain which category and/or invitation letter is appropriate. Academic Visitors Office staff will assist in:
- determining the appropriate academic visitor category for the proposed visitor, and
- determining the appropriate letter of invitation and if additional documentation, such as work permit, is required.

Step 2: Complete the Letter of Invitation & Liability Waiver
After receiving advice from the Academic Visitors Office, departments should complete the appropriate letter of invitation and liability waiver. See Academic Visitor Categories & Letters of Invitation.
